Play therapy or Art therapy (3 years to 12 years) - a type of therapy used for children. This therapy helps the child in exploring themselves and freely expressing their repressed thoughts, feelings, emotions and problems. Play or Art therapy works well with young children who often express themselves better through play or art materials and activities than the talk therapy.
Talk therapy (all age groups) - the most common therapy used by a counsellor or therapist is ‘talk therapy’. Many young children and adults have problems that mainly affect how they act, think and learn. A ‘talk’ is a best medicine for these problems. In this therapy, the individual learns to talk freely about their problems with the counsellor or therapist by resolving their problems and cope better.
Behavioural therapy (all age groups) - a type of therapy used for children and adults to modify their faulty behaviours into healthy behaviours. Here, the counsellor uses different techniques to deal with their problems. This therapy also helps them in coping with difficult situations and outside pressures.
Cognitive- Behavioural therapy (all age groups) - the most demanding and useful therapy dealing with the individual’s negative and distorted thinking patterns. Here, the therapist helps them to learn about the consequences of their thinking on the behaviour. With the help of this therapy, the individual replaces the negative thinking patterns or cognitions with the positive ones.
Rational Emotive- Behavioural therapy (all age groups) - As with adults, the child also has disturbed emotions which are mostly due to their irrational beliefs. Therefore, a counsellor or therapist uses this therapy which works upon the client’s anxiety, anger or depression which is created due to these irrational beliefs.
Parent- child Interaction therapy - It is said that a caregiver or parents are the building blocks for a child’s development. The Counsellor or a therapist uses the therapy as an intervention for children and their parents or caregivers that focuses upon decreasing the faulty behaviour problems, increasing the social skills, adjustment skills, and improving the parent-child relationship.
Family therapy - Nowadays, its seen that a child or young adult can have problems related to his family. In these circumstances, a family therapy or family counselling works well to resolve issues that affect the psychological health of the family or child. This therapy aims in promoting understanding and collaboration among family members in order to solve problems.
Relaxation Therapy - it’s a simple and useful therapy or a technique used for paediatric to geriatric population. It helps an individual to relax; or attain a mental state of mindfulness or calmness by reducing levels of pain, stress, anger or frustration. This therapy involves various relaxation and mediation techniques resulting in positivity amongst individuals.
