‘Psychology’ is both a science and a profession, which helps in understanding how people think, feel, behave and learn. As a science, it studies the human mind, emotion, behaviour, personality, intelligence, memory, cognition, perception, attention and motivation. ‘Psychology’ as a profession strives to help people and the society to find solutions to their problems or real-life problems by improving their mental health and quality of life.
‘Counselling’ is a process that involves an expert or a therapist helping an individual to understand their problems and finding suitable ways and solutions to these problems. Even though there are misconceptions around us about attending a counselling or therapy session, today there is a growing acceptance for needing help for mental health issues. Individuals need counselling to understand their faulty behaviours, feelings, emotions, doubts and conflicts in their minds. By sharing these thoughts and emotions, counselling and therapy can help them assess their abilities, aptitude, interests and find solutions to personal and social adjustments in various arenas of life.
